The aftermath of the Gen Z movement continues to be a significant focal point in Nepal’s political landscape. Investigations into the damages and incidents during the protests are ongoing, with the National Police forming a high-level committee to probe the humanitarian and material losses incurred MyRepublica. Meanwhile, a writ petition has been filed at the Supreme Court challenging the impartiality of the inquiry commission investigating the movement NepalNews. The Supreme Court itself is taking action, deciding to file a police complaint regarding the nationwide vandalism of courts during the protests Onlinekhabar. Additionally, the Far-West Provincial Assembly is still facing uncertainty in reconvening its meetings due to extensive damage to its building during the movement, prompting a search for alternative venues and donor support for repairs Onlinekhabar.
In parallel, significant strides are being made in preparations for the upcoming general elections. The Election Commission has estimated a cost of approximately Rs 7.5 billion for the polls scheduled for March 5 Onlinekhabar. Political parties are being urged to obtain their registration certificates within the next 21 days to be eligible to contest Onlinekhabar. The government, under Prime Minister Sushila Karki, is actively engaging in dialogue to foster a conducive environment for the elections. A tripartite meeting involving the government, political parties, and Gen-Z representatives was held to discuss election preparations and forge political understanding Onlinekhabar, and the Home Ministry has reiterated its call for resolving demands through dialogue rather than street protests NepalNews. This past week has shown some encouraging signs in Nepal’s tourism sector. The beautiful Annapurna region welcomed over 30,000 foreign tourists in the month of Asoj, marking a busy period for trekkers and adventure seekers THT. While this figure saw a slight dip compared to the previous year, potentially due to weather and some local disruptions, the peak trekking seasons of Asoj and Kartik are expected to bring even more visitors. It’s wonderful to see these popular destinations buzzing with activity again!
Closer to the Lakeside, Pokhara has experienced a fantastic tourism boost, with hotels reaching 90% occupancy during a recent long holiday period MyRepublica. This surge, fueled by favorable weather and stunning mountain views, has brought much-needed relief to tourism entrepreneurs and signals a positive outlook for the entire Gandaki province. It’s great news that our vibrant cities are once again welcoming travelers with open arms!
Beyond the headlines in tourism, several other economic developments are worth noting. The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) saw mixed trading, with some days showing increased turnover despite fluctuations in the index Onlinekhabar. Gold and silver prices experienced some declines and rebounds, influenced by global market trends ANN Express. In infrastructure news, Japan has provided a significant grant to aid in the emergency rehabilitation of the flood-damaged Sindhuli Road THT.
